Sergei Shirinsky (1903–1974) was a Russian cellist and music educator, professor of the [l=Moscow Conservatory] (since 1945), laureate of the 1st degree Stalin Prize (1946) and People's artist of the RSFSR (1965). He was a brother of [a=Vasili Shirinsky] and pupil of [url=https://www.discogs.com/artist/4653327]Anatoliy Brandukov[/url]. Sergei had been playing in [a=Bolshoi Theatre Orchestra] (since 1920), Persimfans (1923–32) and [a=Beethoven Quartet] (1923–1974). He shared the stage with [a=Leopold Stokowski], [url=https://www.discogs.com/artist/3908562]Konstantin Igumnov[/url], [a=Maria Yudina] and other notable musicians. [a=Dmitri Shostakovich] dedicated his Fourteenth String Quartet (1973) to Shirinsky.
